29 April 2013

I spent the afternoon with one of my beautiful senior representatives of the class of 2014, taking a few shots for her mini session.  Our session was luckily uneventful, although we did get to see some people go into the water and catch.. with their bare hands.. a cotton mouth.  Yep! That was scary!  Anyway, we got some wonderful photos! I can't wait to do her full session later on this year!

20 April 2013

It's been awhile since I've updated but there is a ton of stuff going on in my life right now! I'm back in college to get my degree that I've put off for entirely too long!

Anyway,  I can start off by saying that I really have missed just going out with my camera and shooting nature. So over the past few weekends, I've done just that.  About 3 weeks ago.. give or take, the bluebonnets started blooming.  They are still in bloom, but won't be around for long.  So I thought I'd go out and get some photos. My kids are all teenagers and getting them into the bluebonnets is now like pulling teeth, so the bluebonnets are alone in the photos this year.

Also.. my daughter is nearing the end of her junior year so I thought today would be an excellent day for a few quick shots in the flowers. She was not thrilled. haha!  Anyway.. I got my photos with a little bit of bribing (or do we call it blackmail?) and she only got a little bit scraped up.  It's so hard for me to believe that my only little girl will be starting college next month as dual enrollment along with her last year of high school!  I still see her as a little three year old with chubby cheeks, bossing her little brother around without a care in the world. <3  They really do grow up too fast.

With all the tragedies happening lately, it's been very hard to deal with emotionally.  I've had Boston and West, TX both in my prayers. So, if anything.. hug your loved ones a little longer tonight and capture those moments with your camera whenever you can. They are priceless!

I hope you enjoyed these photos and a little glimpse into my life today!

Until next time…

23 February 2013

I got to spend my morning with little Miss A and her lovely family. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing than working with a newborn. The sounds, the soft skin, and that wonderful newborn baby smell just can't be beat. I think I'm hooked! Here is one of the few wide awake shots I was able to capture and a precious shot up close. Isn't she simply adorable?

I spent my afternoon with Miss A and her lovely mother, photographing the invitation photos and a few formals for her upcoming quinceañera.  This young lady was simply perfect. She knew what she wanted, was a natural at posing, and was open to any suggestions I had to offer.  I am really looking forward to photographing her beautiful quince in March.  Here are just a few of the dozens of wonderful photos I captured.  Enjoy!

26 December 2012

Now that it is the day after Christmas, I have a bit of time on my hands so I thought I'd write a little about holiday traditions.

There are certain things I can always remember about Christmas as a child.  I always got a Lifesavers book of candy in my stocking, for example.  I love traditions and have begun many of my own since starting my own family.  My children always get pajamas on Christmas Eve. Always.  They also get a Lifesavers book in their stockings, just like I did. We always read the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible, because it's very important to me that they do not forget the true meaning behind Christmas.

This year, even though my children are teenagers, we decided to add the fun of an Elf on the Shelf.  I'm sure many of you are tired of seeing these elves on the internet, but we just couldn't resist. My kids decided they'd play along and follow all of the 'rules' of the Elf on the Shelf.. and so "Figgy" came to live with us.

Figgy got into much mischief.  He redecorated a few things, TP'd the tree, took a marshmallow bath in my gravy boat and so on.  I had a wonderful time coming up with new things for him to get into, and the kids loved seeing what silly thing 'Figgy' had done every morning when they got up.  I think a true highlight was when Figgy wrote "Go Blue" all over my husband's large Ohio State University wall hanging. You should've heard the gasps!  It truly kept a little Christmas magic around the house. That is something that I've felt slipping away as my children have grown up before my eyes.

So, in closing.. no matter how silly a tradition seems, it isn't. I've found many of my friends on Facebook looked forward to seeing my posts about our elf, and I really enjoyed everything to do with it.  Traditions are part of family, so embrace them and carry them on year after year. Your children will thank you for it and your heart will be full.

So until Figgy returns next year… here's a few memories of him!

30 November 2012

Last night was the first game of my son's 7th grade basketball team.  They didn't come away with a win, but I'm very proud of the way my son played the game. He played harder than I have ever seen him play before!  I'm sure they'll only get better..
